I don’t actually have this product, so I can’t tell you how it works for me. I ordered it 2 days ago because I was impressed with the reviews and thought it was a reasonable price. Today I was notified that my order was canceled. I followed the link to try and replace my order. Then I noticed the price went up by over $10. The shipping and handling is also no less than $10 since the product does not come from Amazon. So screw it, I’ll get my waffle iron elsewhere.

VillaWare V2002 UNO Belgian Waffler – Round
The Amazon site (as of 12/22/07 ) still has this item as “in stock” even though when I ordered it, the vendor (TodaysConcept) actually was waiting for the shipment from the manufacturer and never got it before Christmas. Don’t know why this would be . . . (lying???)
Having said that though, I ordered this well before Christmas, and got an email message 1 day before it should have shipped (12/12) as a gift, notifying me that it was suddenly out of stock (hey that happens right?). . well, they gave me a phone number and email to respond to. . . I figured I’d try the phone — no luck, their voice mail box was full and I couldn’t get a hold of anyone nor leave a message. I then tried an email — waited 2 days — and still no response. At this point, since this is supposed to be a gift and I’m stressing a bit, I call Amazon. They give me what I will term as the “run-around” — they don’t directly sell the item, I have to send the seller an email. I’d already done that but the Amazon rep was not very helpful — they could not (would not?) cancel my order and instead sent yet another email — this time in my stead. Again no response. Meanwhile I’m wondering about what to do as Christmas races up and I have no time to get another gift ordered — esp if this one suddening comes in and I’m charged for it! I will take some blame for this — as I should’ve pre-planned longer in advance to buy a gift. Laziness strikes again. In any case, I was not satified with either Amazon’s response (lack of support) nor in TodaysConcept total lack of response. This “3rd party” thing is now more suspect than ever in my mind, and I’m wondering if I’ll ever risk it again unless Amazon steps up and takes control of the order throughout the process.
The end result — if anyone is still interested — is that the order was finally canceled 2 business days before Christmas, leaving me no time to really get the gift delivered on time for Christmas from another vendor. Needless to say, I took my business elsewhere — not Amazon nor any of their vendors — and I called with apologies to my sister for missing the holiday for one of her family’s gifts.
At this point, I guess this could be chalked up to Christmas madness; perhaps this vendor just couldn’t handle the load. Based on other reviews I’ve seen on them, they seemed fine. Take this review in context of that and you’ll probably be okay with them. Good luck though.
BTW, here’s their number 1-877-335-6644 — try it to see if you can get a human support person before you order. That’s just my suggestion though

VillaWare V2002 UNO Belgian Waffler – Round
I’m afraid I wasn’t able to judge the annoying alarm for myself, as the delivered unit had a cracked and crumbling case (the bottom is plastic), which was obviously done at the factory as the box and even the styrofoam was intact. The replacement unit just arrived, and has a broken temperature knob, again with no outside damage. So I’m sitting this one out and looking for another brand. Quality control counts, especially for an electrical product you’ll expect to use for decades. Sorry Villaware, but I just can’t trust it.

The waffles were evenly browned but found the recipe with the waffler were a bit bland. I need to find a better waffle recipe with a richer flavored batter.

VillaWare V2002 UNO Belgian Waffler – Round
I plug the unit in. I use Krusteaz Buttermilk Pancake mix. Three heaping tablespoons of mix in an empty 32oz Yogurt container. . . cold water from refrigerator door to make batter. . . whisk it. The unit beeps. . . I lift the lid and wipe a butter stick over top half, then over bottom half (a little bit of butter melts into the grooves). I pour enough batter to submerge the metal protrusions and close the lid. . . setting 4,5, or 6 (doesn’t seem to matter-they come out brown at either of these settings). . . BEEEEP. I take it out. . . pour more batter. . . by-the-way the yogurt container is ideal because I can fashion a spout by squeezing its sides. I get about 3 waffles out of this. . . or 2 2-sided waffles and a 1-sided one (if you barely submerge the prongs it comes out one sided, that is pockets on one side of the waffle and flat on the other. . . if the prongs poke through the batter, the waffle will have holes. . . try to avoid this for aesthetic reasons. . . ) These are fluffy-spongy things I top with homemade peach jam I spoon into the pockets. . . you can fold these and they do sweat on their plate. I may eat one and give away a second, saving at least one in the refrigerator (covered with plastic wrap). The refrigerated ones I heat in a toaster oven and they come out even better: crispy-chewy. So much for basics. Variations: (a)throw an egg yolk into the batter and whip the white into a meringue with a little bit of sugar to form stiff peaks then pour batter into meringue. result: fluffier BUT I end up with a lot of dishes to wash. . . (b)grind almonds into a powder, walnuts into crunchy tiny bits, blend with egg yolk and sugar, a little Krusteaz and milk, pour into meringue. result: a nut-torte, sort of. . . and crunchy. . . And a big mess of containers, spoons, counters, rags, etc. Do not try this unless you have domestic help! (c)experiment with raisins and cut-up dry apricots and use a bit of sugar for a soft cookie, sort-of. (d) heat (c) at @300 degrees for @10 mins in toaster oven (directly on the rack) and let them stay in there after oven shuts off. . . result: biscotti!, sort of. . . (which you can eat at room temperature, thus perfect for an away from home snack) ANY QUESTIONS?
